Medway Public Health are looking for dynamic and proactive Senior Project Officer for the Wider Determinants of Health. You will be part of the Wider Determinants of Health team, who are well established and passionate about improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities across Medway through addressing the wider determinants of health
The wider determinants of health are a diverse range of social, economic and environmental factors which influence people’s mental, physical, and social health. Systematic variation in these factors constitutes social inequality, which is an important driver of the health inequalities. In Medway we are committed to reducing poverty and inequalities; improving health and wellbeing for all so people have healthier and longer lives; for housing to be of good quality where people feel safe and connected; and for there to be strong community cohesion.
The post holder will be required to work strategically and collaboratively with system partners such as voluntary, community, charity, social enterprise and faith (VCSEF) organisations, the NHS, the Integrated Care Partnership and a wide range of council services to reduce health inequalities in Medway.
There are several areas of priority for this post some of which include, but not limited to:
- Social Health, contributing to the whole systems approach to social prescribing, as well as addressing loneliness and social isolation and how it impacts Medway residents.
- Healthy Placemaking, addressing the social determinants of health through the built environment and contributing to the delivery of the Medway Marmot Place ambitions.
- Providing specialist support and linkage with the VCSEF, working collaboratively with the local authority and NHS to reduce health inequalities in Medway.

- Engage stakeholders (including service users), in service design and development, to deliver accessible and equitable person-centred services.
- Experience of presenting findings/ updates/ developments to a wide audience, including senior management internal and external stakeholders, system partners.
- A developed understanding of measuring and monitoring population health and wellbeing, health needs, risks, inequalities, and use of services.

The Public Health Team are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Project Officer – Wider Determinants of Health at level C. You will meet the requirements of the person specification fully and can demonstrate applied knowledge, experience and skills in this role. All elements within the person specification are essential. You will be supported through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation, which can include identifying and supporting the achievement of professional goals.
Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. This means that the salary you will be offered will be at level A unless, based on an assessment against the CPF criteria, you demonstrate that you are meeting the criteria of level B or C. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.
