Principal Public Health Intelligence Analyst

Job Introduction

DBS: Yes – Standard

Subject to BPSS Checks: No

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join our Public Health Intelligence Team at Medway Council as a Principal Intelligence Analyst. Our team is trusted across both the Medway Council Public Health Directorate and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care System (ICS) to provide robust, meaningful, and actionable insight. This is an exciting opportunity to join innovative and ambitious colleagues working together to improve the health of residents in Medway.

As a Principal Intelligence Analyst, you will take on complex projects from beginning to end. This will involve interacting with key stakeholders to establish clear objectives, designing and implementing analytical methodology, and communicating key data and intelligence. You will critically read Public Health documents and support the development of evidence driven strategies. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a sound understanding of Public Health principles are required. The successful candidate will be expected to work well both independently and as part of group projects. This role will have line management responsibilities and sit within a team with a strong ethos of supporting one another.

At Medway Council we believe that well-evidenced and well-presented intelligence is a vital component to improve the health and wellbeing of Medway residents. The Public Health Intelligence Team has a strong track record of delivering high-quality work, so we welcome all applicants who are motivated to continue this. We often use the R statistical programming language, SQL, and Power BI, so some familiarity with these would be ideal, but is not essential as training can be provided.

If this role appeals to you, please outline on your application your knowledge, experience and skills in the following five areas:

  1. Managing multiple complex analytical projects independently from beginning to end that involve stakeholders.
  2. Use of advanced data analysis techniques and interpretation, such as inferential statistics.
  3. Adhering to data principles set out in data protection legislation.
  4. Insightful communication of data and evidence to a range of audiences.
  5. Management or supervision of team members.

Please look at the job description and person specification for further details, and ensure you include examples from your work or life experiences in your personal statement to illustrate how you meet their criteria.

Interviews will commence the week of the 5th of May 2025 and the week of the 19th of May 2025.

In return we offer you:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Generous local government pension scheme package
  • Access to wider training and development qualifications
  • Flexible working scheme
  • Travel plan discounts
  • Car Benefit Scheme from Tusker
  • Access to CAREFIRST advice & counselling service
