Job Introduction
Parklands is a residential respite unit for young people. Our home provides short breaks for young people who have learning disabilities and complex health needs. Eden House is our residential home for our children in care.
We are looking for a passionate child focused Children’s Learning Disability Nurse to join our fantastic teams working within our residential provision where you will be working directly with children and young people providing personal, health, social and domestic care in accordance with individual care plans. As a registered Learning Disability Nurse, you will support Medway’s children and young people with a learning disability and other complex behaviours within a residential short break care service and longer-term provision. You will have excellent communication skills attention to detail and the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with the children staff team and partner agencies.
You will be expected to work 37 hours a week, Monday - Friday.
About You
You will have –
- Hold a degree in learning disability nurse approved by the Nursing and Midwifery council
- Hold a current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
- Have a qualification in Safeguarding children with disabilities
- A proven ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with children and young people, their families and professionals involved in their care
- Good communications skills, verbal and written
- Previous experience of working directly with children and young people in a children’s residential setting.
- An understanding of issues for disabled children and their families, and the development needs of children and young people
- A full driving licence
- As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to provide either a British passport or a UK Residence Permit or equivalent legal document that proves you are able to work in the UK
- Be trained in Paediatric Moving and Handling of Children
- Training in Gastronomy Care, Feeding and Management
- Paediatric First Aid training
- Medication Administration training
